Every winter, spectacular ice sculptures are formed inside the cave entrance, making the experience of visiting the lava tunnel even more breathtaking.

DAY 7: Winter Wonderland of Ice Caves

Today’s Spectacular Highlights Include:

HEARTY ICELANDIC BREAKFAST TO START THE DAY As the winter mornings in Iceland can be pretty chilly, be sure to fuel up with some traditional Icelandic fare such as Skyr (a thick yogurt-like dairy product), rye bread, eggs, and perhaps some smoked fish.

MEET YOUR PRIVATE GLACIER GUIDE Your driver will take you to meet a local glacier guide in the area familiar with beautiful Ice caves – unknown to the regular traveler. Ensure everyone in the group is dressed warmly in layers, waterproof boots, hats, gloves, and scarves!

ICE CAVE EXPLORATION Venture into the unknown with a local glacier guide who will lead you to some of the most breathtaking ice caves. Your guide will provide a safety briefing and equip the group with equipment such as crampons and helmets. These hidden gems, often radiant with shades of blue, are a sight to behold and are not frequented by regular travelers. Capture memorable moments with photos, but always remember to tread lightly and respect the environment.

LUNCH AMONG THE LANDSCAPE Enjoy a packed lunch amidst the stunning landscapes. Hot beverages, soups, or stews can warm and energize in the cold weather. Share stories of the morning’s adventures and bond with your mates.

OPTIONAL GLACIER HIKE If your group is up for it, partake in a short glacier hike. For those wanting more thrill, some areas might offer snowmobiling or even ice climbing (check in advance).

RETURN PRIVATE TRANSFER Board your private transfer and head, reminiscing about the day’s adventures and the majestic landscapes you witnessed. Once back at your hotel, take some time to relax and freshen up. The winter air can be quite tiring, so having some downtime is good.

DINNER AT YOUR LEISURE Explore the local culinary scene. Iceland has unique dishes like fermented shark, lamb stew, and fresh seafood. Visit a popular restaurant or choose a quieter place if your group prefers a more intimate setting. Remember to try out some Icelandic beers or spirits.

HUNT THE NORTHERN LIGHTS (Optional) If the forecast looks promising, consider venturing out to catch a glimpse of the mesmerizing Northern Lights. Iceland’s clear, cold winter nights offer a great opportunity for this. You can drive out to a secluded spot or join a local Northern Lights tour.
